Major spoilers ahead aboutStranger Things 3.
The first time we see Jim Hopper inStranger Things 3, he is pissed.
Instead he is jubilant, and sings a rousing version of You Dont Mess Around With Jim to celebrate.
Hopper wasnt this angry when last we saw him inseason twoor, for that matter,season one.
What do we know about Jim Hopper, prior to season three?
We also have seen him show patience and generosity, particularly with Joyce and El.
All of this is what makes Hoppers explosive behavior in season three so jarring.
Hes gotten mad before, sure.
For that matter, Mikes extremely disrespectful response toward Hopper seems pretty out of character, too.
This is one of the issues that takesStranger Things 3down a couple of notches.
But asStranger Things 3gets underway, its harder to do that.
Hopper has never been transparent and open about his feelings, nor has he confronted them head-on himself.
His anger is just a front for whats really going on.
Then he adds: I guess, if Im being really honest, thats what scares me.
I dont want things to change.
But Hoppers genuine emotions shouldnt have to be a surprise, at least not to the audience.
The thievery is even more of an affront if you believe thatHopper really is dead.
Again, 80s popcorn fare was not always known for its subtlety.
For what its worth, many of todays popcorn movies arent either.But television made in 2019 is.
