Ahead of the release, werereflectingon the questions we had after first watching the trailer.

Every Disney live-action update comes with a litany of questions.

Why does thatlion look like that?

How do I get my cheekbones to pop likeAngelina Jolies?

Wait, there are twoJon Favreaus?

The arrival of the newMulantraileris no exception.

Others were expecting a realistic adaptation of the original Chinese folk ballad that dates back to the sixth century.

Everyone prayed it would be nothing like theleaked scriptfrom 2016.

Were still months out from the movies March 2020 release, so we dont know exactly whats what yet.

Where is Mushu?

The Anglicized name prompted some to view the animatedMulanasWestern appropriation.

Where is Li Shang?

The internets bisexual icon, Captain Li Shang, definitely wont be in the new movie.

(I know, and Pride Month just ended.)

Instead, live-actionMulanhas a new man: Chen Honghui, another military recruit, played byYoson An.

WillMulanbe a musical?

Yes, we all love Reflection.

Yes, we all cry while singing it in the shower.

But no, it wont be sung in the newMulan.

Director Niki Caro toldMoviefonein 2017 that as of that moment, there were no songs in the movie.

Its a big, girly martial arts epic, she explained.

It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving.

It just wont move your feet.

The songs do seem to be making a comeback as instrumentals, though.

If you listen closely to the beginning of the teaser, youll hear Reflection plinking away.

Why does everyone speak with a different accent?

For example, Mulans mother Hua Li is played by Rosalind Chao, a Chinese-American actress from California.

In the animated film, Mulan is an only child with a dog named Little Brother.

Just like Mushu, Little Brother apparently got sent to the dog house.

In the live-action version, Xana Tang will play Mulans sister, Hua Xiu.

you’re free to catch the first glimpse of Hua Xiu in the beginning of the trailer.

Why is her hair long?

Shes mentally preparing to die in war to save her fathers life!

It makes little to no physical sense, but its still somehow more than iconic.

Why is her hair long?

Perhaps as a flawed attempt to keep the girly in girly, martial arts epic?
