2018 was a landmark year for Matt Ingebretson and Jake Weisman.
Nearly a year to the day, season two makes its debut on the data pipe tonight.
Its all in days work that comes with beingCorporate.
If youre constantly talking about the same things about yourself, you cant grow.
Matt: Or not.
And then a few years later they go, Are you gonna get married?
And then a few years after that, Are you gonna have kids?
And thats just every family because thats what life is.
Its okay youre not married and have kids, you have a show.
I think every religion is beautiful, and however someone finds peace in this crumbling world, God bless.
Matt: Did the Catholic Church buy out Vulture?
Jake: I have nothing but unbelievable respect for the incredible pope.
Again, peace on Earth and all religion is obviously so good.
Did that whole thing surprise you?
So it was a delight just to know that people had strong feelings on both sides.
Or on many different sides.
I think its a really good thing when people are talking about what youre doing.
Was any of that reflected back into season two?
When that stuff happens, does it turn the wheels on Whats my comedic opinion on this?
How do I look at it?
Everything thats happening in the world ends up being reflected into your point of view in the show.
You cant help it.
Its just how you live.
Everything thats happening now, even this interview, its all funny, its all potential material.
If youre good at what you do, everything thats happening essentially becomes filtered through your point of view.
Matt: Were not specifically interested in offending someone.
Thats never the goal for us.
Or maybe we will who gives a shit?
Jake: I dont care who it pisses off.
There are so many shows that literally just wash over people.
Most things are just garbage you watch to fall asleep.
Which Id agree is true, but later in the yearshe went over the line.
So do you think she finally misjudged the line, or did the line move?
I think shes clearly mentally deteriorating.
It seems that way.
If youre just saying horrific racist things and dont realize how racist they are, you should be fired.
I think its our job to create an argument thats logically sound that we agree with.
But if youre racist, you do get in trouble, and you should.
How would you adjust that ten-year goal now?Matt: Wow, I dont remember that.
I feel very fortunate.
Maybe in three years Ill be directing my own movie or maybe in three years Ill be dead.
Who the fuck knows?
My hope is to continue to make good work in some capacity.
Jake: You start to sort of base your dreams on what you know is possible.
Is that true, and could drama be in your future?Jake: Yes, for sure.
Were interested in making a lot of different things, especially things that arent necessarily just a comedy.
And hopefully we can make a really fucked-up, insane drama at some point that upsets the Catholic Church.
Our main goal is to upset the Catholic Church.
Both of those guys are so funny.
Any time I see Jo Firestone or Aparna Nancherla do comedy, I love it.
Theres an illustrator and comic artist whose Instagram handle is@pantspantswho I love a lot.
I loved the moviesFirst ReformedandThe Favourite, and I like the TV showSuccession.
Jake: I liked so many things last year.
I spent a lot of last year reading.
Theres a book calledThe Sarah Bookby Scott McClanahan and a book calledNew Peopleby Danzy Senna that I loved.
It makes you a better, happier person, and its better than the internet.
Its so funny and dark.
And oh, she just likes what we do?
Being on set is very difficult work, and everyone was really amazing to work with.
Theyve been working at this job for 30 years and theyre you before you were you.
