), and its not hard to see why Oppenheimer was such a massive hit.

Though probably nobody saw this film making nearly a billion dollars.

Scorsese is a Catholic, but one who is fascinated with the silence of God.

Only by allowing himself to be debased can this man actually come to understand God.

Because holiness, it turns out, is not about elevation and superiority.

Its about groveling, shame, humiliation, pain, being brought to your lowest point.

Scorsese, cinemas great poet of suffering, understands this on a profound level.

Silence is one of his greatest films.

Witha 182-minute time heistthrough the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, of course.

Afterward, the two will never have to work again.

Thats a delightful set-up, but Morenos aims are decidedly offbeat.

And so, the film drifts along with the pleasant cadence of a dream.

The movies absurd length becomes part and parcel of this idea.

A restored cut in the 1980s restored its reputation.

Today, its rightly judged as one of the greatest films of all time.

But why would you want to step away from something so bent on delivering nonstop entertainment?

You could spend hours more just trying to understand what it all means.

Watch and prepare to be awed.

In that sense, Nixon might actually be Stones most personal film.

Thats not to say this is a hagiography either.

But that was the theatrical cut, clocking in at 145 minutes.

Is there a movie that has had a greater turnaround in quality between a theatrical and a directors cut?

May that John Williams score haunt you in your sleep.

Watching it is the cinematic equivalent ofeating oystersandsnails.

Beatty, who also directed the film, is in the swan song of his hotness here.

Gandalf would be so proud.

(A less prestigious feat, sure.)

Plus it features cinemas least-happy kiss.

StrangeloveorA Clockwork Orange, but for the patient viewer, its rewards are just as rich.

Debunked or not, its a must-watch.

Now, theres no escape.

But the trick isnot minding that it hurts.

Both are highlights of the Swedish master, but its worth seeking out the complete item.
