(Sorry about it, Chad Michaels.)
That is far too often to cast a new slate of All Stars.
Just look atthe cast ofAll Stars4: Half of the queens were from seasons nine and ten.
(Much like fetch and Monet X Changes sponges, it will never happen.)
Its not that the idea of bringing back beloved queens is a bad one.
But the currentAll Starsformat is increasingly eroding the foundations of theDrag Racefranchise.
(Heroes Vs. VillainsandFans Vs. Favoritesare two of the never-ending seriess strongest seasons ever.)
Or perhaps have older queens return as team captains or mentors, which is a staple ofBig Brother.
How about aDrag Raceversion ofBachelor in Paradise?
Call it the Phi Phi OHara Syndrome.
I get it, everyone has to make a living.
She doesnt care about a crown; she cares about being cast inRent: Liveon Fox.
It would be because of some offscreen beef we cant possibly judge because we didnt see it ourselves.
This brings me to my biggest beef withAll Stars: Its antithetical to the ethos ofDrag Race.
What many of us love aboutDrag Raceis that it is a meritocracy.
That is what makesDrag Racethe best show on TV.
Sometimes just being friends with the winner will get you right to the very end.
Thats how Roxxxy Too Many Xs Andrews got to the end ofAll Stars2.
She was in the bottom practically every week but was saved by her friend Alaska three times.
She also got kicked off before Latrice, who was already eliminated from the competition for cause.
(Love you Latrice, but step that pussy up.)
I loveAll Stars3 winner Trixie Mattel, but shes notmywinner.
And the reasonDrag Raceis so great is because itisntthose shows.
We watchDrag Racebecause its sweet and empowering.
Its about a group of marginalized people who overcome the conflicts and setbacks in their lives to become superstars.
(Dont tell theReal HousewivesI said that.
)All Starsmust die so thatDrag Racecan live.
And Im okay with that.
