I finally got to see the whole season a week ago, the actor says, laughing.
Thats a great feeling and also a rare feeling.
Its not every job.
Specifically for me, its a big credit to Laura Linney.
It makes it possible to be your best self when thats the kind of reception you get.
That comes from Laura.
Thats what youre chasing.
Thats what makes all the hard years, the lean years, worth it.
Thats what makes all the rejections worth it.
You get a chance to do that with someone like Laura and everything is justified.
That episode is where Bens bipolar disorder really hit home for me.
It was on the page, and then I played it, sure, but its the writing.
Its this endless hamster wheel of a problematic or negative thought and this compulsion to fix things.
In this context, its heartbreaking.
But it was, in my opinion, some of the best writing that I had ever read.
The only thing that could happen with me improvising that scene is making it worse.
So I spent weeks just going over and over and over the lines because thats my job.
The girl whos getting bullied, hereallyhas a problem with that, and hereallyfollows through on protecting her.
In that scene, we learn this guy really has a sense of right and wrong.
