A.G. Sulzberger just told the Newsroom that the Cotton oped was “contemptuous.
““This piece should not have been published.”
It received backlash almost immediately.
We understand that many readers find Senator Cottons argument painful, even dangerous.
We believe that is one reason it requires public scrutiny and debate.
He also said the staff would have a town hall on June 5 to answer questions about Cottons essay.
Sulzberger, who oversees Bennet in his position, also defended the decision to publish the op-ed.
