Lupita Nyongo and Danai Guriras long-awaited adaptation ofAmericanah,byChimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has been scrapped by HBO Max.

The series planned to start shooting earlier this year but was set back by thecoronavirus pandemic.

According toVariety, Nyongo was forced to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts.

The show received aten-episode straight-to-series orderat HBO Max in 2019 afteryearsof adaptation talks.

Nyongo and Gurira would both serve as executive producers, with Nyongo starring and Gurira writing.

Joining Nyongo wasUzo Aduba, Corey Hawkins, Tireni Oyenusi, and Zackary Momoh.

Americanahis just the latest TV dream to be crushed by COVID.
