They refuse, and she heads out into the night.
Oh, boy, its going to be a standalone episode from an alternate characters point of view!
Lets get into theseheartbreakers, dream makers, love takerswhove been plaguing the most insightful record-seller in Brooklyn.
Heartbreak #1 is Ben, who entered Simons life about a year after his so-called breakup with Rob.
This almost-throwaway line incinerates Robs overinvested framing of their brief romance.
The economy of it!
Well written, well delivered.
Not a great look, Rob!
Heartbreak #2: Benjamin Young, again!
Its pretty standard and understandable: Ben apologizes for ghosting, Simon seems to be in a forgiving mood.
A trip to the clinic confirms Simon is HIV negative (yay!)
and chlamydia positive (boo!).
Yet again, its Benjamin Young!
Literally, hes right there at Simons apartment door, a bunch of apology roses in hand.
Simon slams the door in Bens face, but you know thats not going to last.
You have never committed to me, ever.
You could just disappear at any minute, because I dont know what the fuck we are!
Ben declares nothing would make me happier than to be your boyfriend, so voila, theyre official boyfriends.
Every early hip-hop song samples disco!
and Sylvesters influence as a genderqueer icon.
Before Ben can respond, he gets a call from work, deflating the moment entirely.
Heartbreak #4: Is it a new-to-us fellow named Timothy Marshall?
Nope, its Ben.
Simon is hanging out in Bens amazing, light-filled, balcony-featuring-views-of-the-Brooklyn-Bridge apartment.
Ben finally tells Simon he loves him, and that hes made partner at his firm.
Its a plain, light gray short-sleeved button-up shirt.
Simon: The thing about me is, Im pathologically insecure.
Me: Now thats what I call a moment of clarity!
Heartbreak #5: to the surprise of literally no one, its Ben!
Turns out, that very day, Ben swung by the shop.
He misses Simon and hopes they can renew their relationship.
Oh, happy day, hes going to see the Cute Barista!
Simon, clad in his terrible shirt, rolls up at the coffee shop at closing time.
After a little cute banter, the pair stroll into the evening together, full of hope and possibility.
Across the street, we see Rob sitting on the curb outside The Allied, glumly smoking alone.
- Speaking of Sylvester, Simons impromptu talk about him is what good musical expertise is all about.
Simons not a culture hoarder, hes a culture sharer.
Lets all be more like Simon.
