Theres always an X-factor throwing off the balance.

Its never just about two sides clashing.

Its not even clear whos in charge of each side.

This time its Ebals turn to monologue.

The only problem: He doesnt really know what hes talking about.

Loys well-equipped to take advantage of the situation, even if hes slow to act.

Maybe hes too concerned about the well-being of his family to lash out.

Or maybe hes just smart and wants to stay that way.

Nobodys dumb and smart at the same time, he says, and Loys not dumb.

He quickly susses out that the safe house raid, though bloody and costly, is just some crime.

Will he be smart enough to survive the coming storm?

We met the ill-fated Kellerman inFargos second season.

Loy seems to have picked the wrong team.

We find him, having presumably learned Oraettas name and where she lives, engaging in an afternoon tryst.

He stands his ground against his younger brother, who backs down.

But it feels like a temporary retreat.

Deafy doesnt buy it.

(The informants poor performance certainly doesnt help.)

This could turn ugly quickly.

If so, its unlikely to be the only trouble soon visited on the King of Tears mortuary.

And, even if hes right, that doesnt mean the blowing over wont leave plenty of destruction behind.

Okay Then!

We learn a bit more about what makes Oraetta run this episode.

Shes a romantic who dreams of travel to Istanbul, an exotic place that ismaybewhere they shotCasablanca?

They shotCasablancain Casablanca, Josto tells her.

(Hes wrong but hes at least a littlelesswrong.)

(She doesnotlike swearing, however.

She and Deafy would probably get along.)

A couple of non-Coen homages this week.

Clearly Hawley and the rest of theFargocrew spent some time watching classic gangster movies to prepare for this season.

A lingering question: What did Oraetta want to accomplish with the ipecac-laced pie?

Presumably sickening the whole Munson family to a much lesser degree than poor Swanee is experiencing.

She couldnt have thought one of the Munsons would have gobbled up the whole pie.

Oh yeah, theres apparently now a ghost in the mix.

Ehelrida sees it in the King of Tears.

Zelmare sees it assuming its the same one in the hotel room.

Her line about people, not places, being haunted seems even more significant now.

That sex scene should probably have come with a Dont try this at home warning.
