What was it like shooting on location? It was amazing.

The show exists in these three worlds: the office, her romance world, and the Mindy world.

This is what wed be doing if she had time off: sitting at cafe drinking Sancerre.

On the show, Mindy is fluent in English, French, and Mandarin.

Im sorry, Madame Harris!

Hed seen me inMean Girlson Broadway and asked if Id mind if they wrote in some singing for Mindy.

We talked about how we would want it to be story driven and not just singing for the singing.

So a lot of that backstory developed after the casting and is still in development, you know?

I was curious about the song choices for the show.

Why those songs? They liked the idea of La Vie en Rose from the beginning.

Thats too much! But its just right.

I had to learn the French version in two days!

And then they said, We love the feeling of Chandelier for this big moment for her.

I was so terrified to sing that song; its been done so well.

I wasnt thinking at all about the style or anything.

Costumes are a big part of this show, as they are for any Darren Star production.

She and Marylin Fitoussi, the Frenchwoman who was our costume supervisor and head, we developed it together.

It felt like picking out my own outfits, likeClueless.

I was wearing a pink hat that I wear in the show.

Its what I strive for in real life with my fashion but just much more glamorous.

If theres aSex and the Cityanalogy to the show, Mindy is the Samantha to Emilys Carrie.

Did you think in those terms? We actually talked about this!

The characters are on the spectrum on all four of them.

Emily lives in the Charlotte-Carrie world, and Mindy lives in the Carrie-Samantha-Miranda world.

Because they both have a bit of Carrie, they get along well.

Do you think of yourself as one of the four?I wish Samantha, but no!

She looks at what happens to her and comes up with the lessons she learned.

Lily had to be shooting constantly, but it sounds like you had plenty of off days.

Im very grateful to have worked from show to show.

[But] Ive had very little time to ever travel or study abroad.

I went to Milan, Geneva, Budapest, Greece, London.

The conversations we had started and talked about were ones of great allyship.

We are still working on it.

Also talking about theater, are you still involved inKPOP?
